" THE The current crisis is pushing the Greek model to its limits. However, overcoming these limits depends on both the private sector and the role that the state will play. The bet is, obviously, on the regeneration of the national economy."

N. G. Drosos

The current crisis has a heavy human and financial cost. However, it also offers a rare opportunity to comprehensively rebuild the country's economic foundations. And there will indeed be money. We just have to take advantage of it!

The recent assurances of the government's economic staff that –despite the more negative than expected third quarter GDP data- the Greek economy  shows endurance, may have a calming effect on citizens' concerns. However, they do not remove the firm belief that the current crisis will be catalytic for a significant portion of business activity in our country.

After a decade of crisis and memoranda, the year of the pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns that accompanied it will - it is certain - lead to on new padlocks. Not all those that stopped operating before the lockdowns will reopen. Those that survive the economic crisis and are able to operate again in 2021 should be considered economic heroes. Some will be -inevitably- the victims and others the heroes.

In light of the significantly lower level from which the Greek economy is expected to restart, it becomes a question of national survival the continuation and greater specialization of the support that the government currently provides to Greek entrepreneurship. After the IMF, just recently and the OECD They recommend not only continuing to provide support to businesses but also further extending the period during which it will be offered, beyond the end of the pandemic.

In this light, although the continuation of the measures announced yesterday by the economic staff is -reasonably- intentional, it is only a crumple the overall support that must be provided to entrepreneurship, with a view to ensuring its survival.

The provision of this support is also relevant with the chronic malfunctions presented by the Greek economy during the implementation of corresponding programs to support entrepreneurship and development. Dysfunctions which concern either the existence opacity either in defective promotion of any development programs or investment laws.

Given this, regardless of the final form that the proposals of the Greek plan within the framework of the Recovery Fund or, respectively, the forecasts of the famous Pissarides report will take, it is an element of survival for Greek entrepreneurship and by extension the Greek economy. the effective promotion and implementation of these plans.

In short, if after ten years of crisis and one year of economic disaster we reserve these new European funds the same fate which had the package of corresponding community funding that flowed into our country in previous decades, then...

The responsibility, however, does not lie solely on her shoulders. policy leadership but also her business class of our country. Over the last decade, the choice of the "easy solution", namely the tourism industry or aspects of it such as catering, and the expansion of the share they hold in the Greek GDP to a level of over 20%, contributed to the current picture of disaster.

Under normal circumstances, the tourism industry can be the "physics" selection" for a country like Greece, however, in crisis conditions like the present, the wisdom of this choice finds its corresponding of course boundaries her.

The current crisis is pushing the Greek model to its limits. However, overcoming these limits depends on both the private sector and the role that the state will play.

The bet is, obviously, about the regeneration of the national economy.
