THE NEW REVISED POWER EQUATION OF A NATION WITH THE ADDITION OF 7 NEW POWER COEFFICIENTS.
THE NEW REVISED POWER EQUATION OF A NATION WITH THE ADDITION OF 7 NEW POWER COEFFICIENTS.
By Mr. Evdokimos Markopoulos, businessman-economist. member of ELISME
THUCIDIDES wrote in the fifth book of the dialogue between the Melians and the Athenians, translated by Eleftherios Venizelos.
<<The argument of justice has value only between equals because the strong takes what his strength allows him and the weak concedes what his weakness imposes on him>>.
Note. In these few words of the Athenians as transmitted by Thucydides, the entire theory of political realism is contained.
Paraphrasing Thucydides, Kissinger he had said that <<what the strong wants is legal>>.
Based on the above finding, the states are divided into peace-loving which are the most and in hegemonic – revisionist states.
Revisions are characterized the powerful states such as USA, Russia, China, Great Britain, etc. which due to their power they do not follow the rules of international law but they interpret and revise them according to their interests and impose their will on the weaker states by taking what they want.
Turkey also joined this category of hegemonic-revisionist states.
Peace-loving are the small and weaker states that desire the use and application of international law, the rules of which they try to follow.
Of course, our homeland belongs to this category of peace-loving states.
Therefore, the strength of a state is important for its survival as a free and independent state as well as the exercise of its sovereign rights under international law.
That is why it is important to first know what the power factors of a state are.
Ως member of Hellenic Institute for Strategic Studies ELISME I have attended several lectures, seminars and conferences and have read quite a bit out of personal interest.
Attending speeches by important people Greek diplomats and leading figures in the political sceneI found out that they use the power equation of a nation of the former Prime Minister of Turkey and professor Mr. Davutoglu.
Η strength of a nation-state as is known according to the gentleman Davutoglu is determined by the following mathematical formula and includes the following 10 factors, 7 of which have a cumulative effect and 3 have a multiplicative effect:
POWER=(History + Geography + population + culture + economy + military power + technological capability) X Strategic mindset X Strategic planning X Political will
Looking at this equation I found that it is incomplete, e.g.. there is no the coefficient of cohesion of a nation which has a multiplier effect. Also there is no the coefficient of alliances of a nation etc.
So before the pandemic and before the 2019 elections, I had asked for a small workshopduring an ELISME board meeting to raise the need to revise Davutoglu's power equation of a nation.
Indeed, on a board of directors became a small workshopwhere I expressed my views and everyone agreed that this equation of Davutoglu is incomplete mentioning 2-3 factors that it should have included such as B.C the coefficient of alliances.
After this, I worked on this equation and submitted the new revised equation of power of a Nation-State to the Hellenic Institute for Strategic Studies ELISME by email, but I also published it with my articles in the local newspaper of my city before the pandemic and finally presented it in my speech at ELISME on 5-6-2024.
I also sent it to the Prime Minister, Adonis Georgiades, Minister of Development at the time, and the Deputy Minister of National Defense.
Due to my own commitments, 2019 I had trips to China and abroad in general, and due to the pandemic, I was unable to make the second and final presentation to the ELISME Board of Directors and it stayed that way.
The NEW revised equation of power of a nation-state is enriched with 7 new factors, 4 of which have a cumulative effect: EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM, FUNCTIONAL SYSTEM OF THE COUNTRY, SELF-SUFFICIENCY, ALLIANCES and 3 have a multiplicative effect: COHESION, NATIONAL PLAN, MINDSET and is as follows:
POWER = (HISTORY + GEOGRAPHY + POPULATION + CULTURE + EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM + FUNCTIONAL SYSTEM OF THE COUNTRY + ECONOMY + MILITARY POWER + TECHNOLOGICAL CAPABILITY + SELF-SUFFICIENCY + ALLIANCES) X COHESION X STRATEGIC MINDSET X STRATEGIC PLANNING X NATIONAL PLAN X MINDSET X POLITICAL WILL
That is, in new revised equation of power of a nation We a total of 17 power factors, as long as I added 7 new ones factors, of which The first 11 have a cumulative effect and the last 6 have a multiplicative effect, while the Davutoglu equation has only 10 power factors.
In addition, in the new revised power equation I also introduce the concept of SUB power factors.
- First of all, I will mention as an example of the term of SUB power factors a very important SUB power factor in the main power factor of the economy for Greece, which is our commercial shipping.
Because Greece consistently ranks as the world leader in key metrics. Greek shipowners control over the 20% of the world's merchant fleet in terms of tonnage – dwt, making Greece the largest ship-owning country in the world. The Greek-owned merchant fleet is the largest in the world, showing steady growth. The last indeed decade the total capacity of the Greek merchant fleet, consisting of 5.543 ships, has increase against 53,5% . The average age of Greek-owned ships is lower than the global average and Greece is above China and Japan in controlled DWT, emitting less carbon dioxide than both countries (UNCTAD data – 2022).
Furthermore, Greek-owned shipping as a whole continues to set rules in the market and be essential to the global economy.
Piraeus is also ranked 8th.thas an international shipping center today. With the reopening and revival of the shipyards, this position is being strengthened with upward trends.
I was pleased to hear from leading Greek shipowners that Piraeus will become the Silicon Valleyof shipping.
Greek companies have already been created startappsfor commercial shipping which are operating successfully.
However, it is not enough to have strong power factors if:
- We don't use them. as is the case with our culture and history, so I introduce the degree of use of these.
- We are not protecting them. from falsifications, appropriations, thefts, etc. so I introduce the degree of protection thereof.
- We do not care about increasing the power of these so I enter it percentage increase in their power.
Therefore, these power factors should:
To be evaluated by the National Security Council at regular intervals in terms oftheir power, i.e. how strong they are.
- To be protected, for example, our history is being distorted and our culture is under attack.
- They should be strengthened, that is, we should consider further strengthening them. In what ways will we increase their power?
- To be used for the benefit of our homeland. To examine, that is, to what extent we are using them for the benefit of our homeland, for example, we have a very important and powerful history but we do not use it and we did not use it in Skopje, as Kissinger said in 1993, as did the Portuguese Prime Minister to Mrs. Arveler.
I explain and describe the 7 new power factors I added and I refer to some old ones with some notes..
- HISTORY. As is known People make history and history makes people, as long as they know it naturally.. Although we have a very rich history, unfortunately we do not know it because it is taught incorrectly and with shortcomings due to the parties which, due to their obsessions, want each one to proportionally impose their own history. playing the game of the enemies of Greece whose goal is to damage our historical reserves (Kissinger). But we are not protecting it from malicious and hostile falsifications and appropriations which are also part of a hybrid war. I have sent a proposal to the Prime Minister to form a group of 300 historians, the number is symbolic, who will fight daily in response to all malicious attacks, falsifications and appropriations of our history and culture.
- GEOGRAPHY.Our geographical position is important, this is known to everyone, as long as we take advantage of it. As a businessman and economist, I will point out the following. Greece can become a transit center and gateway for goods from Asia which was proven after the takeover of the port of Piraeus by the Chinese COSCO. From 1,5 million containers that were now being handled, 5 million reached the target of 7,2 million with the 3 piers. Before the port of Piraeus had only 8 cranes for unloading containers and an unknown port in China, Liangwang, which I had visited in 2005, had 42 cranes.
Now our government has also begun discussions with India.
Furthermore, there are the cruise ships as well as transportation cars.
What should I say first about the port of Alexandroupolis. From commercialFrom this perspective, the movement of goods through the port of Alexandroupolis and then by rail to central Europe only takes6 hoursthrough the Dardanellestwo days with all the problems of traffic, pollution, possible accidents, etc.
And the cost is halfthrough the Alexandroupolis .
So we canto reduce the importance of the Dardanelles in the movement of goodsand to increase the importance of the port of Alexandroupolis.
Unfortunately Our ports are not connected to the railway.!
Now, of course, its strategic location has been highlighted for yet another reason: the movement of weapons systems and troops.
Also, due to our geographical location, we could our shipyards to repair commercial ships and not only that, and not be forced to go on an entire trip to China or Turkey, given that the Skaramangas shipyards have the largest tank in the Mediterranean of 500.000 tons.
Also, for air transport, Greece could become a transit center for passengers, etc. Imagine Qatar and Dubai trying to become transit centers for passengers through airlines. All these activities increase GDP, create jobs and make our country important by increasing its power.
- POPULATION. The larger the population of the country, the greater the power of the country. Instead of being 25 million, we are 16, of which 5-6 million were forced to emigrate and live in other countries. So we are about 11 million and we are declining since we have a strong demographic problem and if the situation is not reversed, we risk extinction as a nation.
Wrongly, when we talk about the population of Greeks, we say 10 million. There is also the Greek diaspora as well as the population of our fellow Cypriots. So we must say that the population of Greeks is 18 million. And the Greek diaspora is the SUB-factor of the population, as long as we take care to maintain it and keep it connected to the motherland. We cannot fail to support Greek schools with teachers and educational materials. During the recent visit of an opposition leader to a school of the Greek diaspora in Northern Epirus, the teacher told him that they do not have maps!
Of course, it is not enough to just increase our population numerically, we must also make them Greek.
Therefore, in the population coefficient UNDER the power coefficients are:
a. The diaspora, as we have approximately 6 million expatriates around the world, with the largest population group in the USA, the leading country on the planet.
b. Also in the population coefficient, another SUB-power factor is a large percentage of scientists and holders of doctoral degrees, since we have approximately 12.000 while France has approximately 10.000.
Of course, we need to record all of them and develop communication with them to see how we can utilize them and reconnect with them, even remotely. Because even remotely, they can help and contribute.
c. Another SUB-power factor in the population is the Greek community of SiliconValleywhich amounts to approximately 2.000 because in addition to the size of a UPO factor, its importance also plays a role and this community is very important in the technological development and upgrading of technology in Greece both in terms of its use and in its development as long as it is used. I had sent a proposal to the Prime Minister for this community and fortunately the Greek state also opened an office in SiliconValleyto support her and work with her.
4.CULTURE. While our ancient ancestors created the most important civilization, we modern Greeks completely ignore it, knowing only some names without knowing anything about their work, and of course we have thrown it into the trash can.
The 6 of the 10 most important people of all time according to MITare Greeks with Aristotle in first place. Of the 5 first places, 4 are Greeks.
We are Microsoftof antiquity because we gave the operating system to the Western world. I don't remember which famous scientist said that we should pay tax to Greece for every Greek word we use, such as the word democracy.
For Greece, its wealth is the culture we inherited from our ancient ancestors, as long as we make use of it.
But first we must Let us get to know him, so we can become better and then highlight him by promoting him by every means possible. This is how we will gain the appreciation and support of the global community. It is our most important weapon.I sent a proposal to the Prime Minister that one of the state channels deal with the promotion of the culture we inherited from our ancestors, initially in Greek and English, and later in other languages.
- EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM (new factor). Through the educational system, as long as it is correct, you can create good citizens who will communicate with the present and see the future. «Those who have carefully studied the way people are governed,"they must be convinced that the fate of nations depends on the education of the young." AristotleMacron said that geopolitics should probably be included in the education system.
Furthermore, they will know their rights and their obligations, as well as their duties towards their homeland. Thus, they will fulfill them to a greater extent and will do what is required to protect it. In other words, our educational system must create Greek citizens or citizens of this country. Because even if the demographic problem is solved numerically by increasing the population, it is not enough if they do not feel like citizens of this country.
- OPERATING SYSTEM OF THE COUNTRY (new factor). By Operating System of the country I mean the state machine, the legislative framework, the infrastructure, the degree of digitization, etc. in other words how well, quickly and reliably the state operates. But when it takes 10 years to make a decision to buy brakes for Mirage planes, you understand how well it works.
- ECONOMY.The stronger the economy, the more the power of our country increases. There is money, and without it, nothing can be done that is necessary... Demosthenes. Have you read or heard about the cost of the war in Ukraine and also in Israel?
I will mention two countries that have the same population as Greece and their GDP. Belgium has a GDP of 467 billion EUROS, while we have 220 billion EUROS and Sweden has 563 billion EUROS. Israel has a GDP of 390 billion EUROS.
- MILITARY POWER. Without military power we cannot maintain our independence and exercise our sovereign rights. In order to have results in the diplomatic field, the other countries sitting at the negotiating table must know that we have great military power and the damage they will suffer in the event of a military conflict will be so great that it is unprofitable for them, otherwise we become a disposable state. Plutarch said that "your words should be EQUAL to your weapons." In other words, effective diplomacy cannot be practiced without corresponding military power. Unfortunately, some political parties did everything they could to discredit the army and together they pioneered the reduction of the term of office from 24 months to 9 months in order to please voters and get votes. Meanwhile, armaments had been frozen for many years.
I would like to make some remarks on some SUB-factors of military power and to mention and bring to your attention two SUB-factors of power which, in my humble opinion, should be included in the record in order to hear your views.
Military power is based on the following SUB-factors.
- In a sufficiently long term of office.
- In real and adequate education during the term of office, that is why I proposed to the Prime Minister a 24-month term of office, with the first 12 months dedicated to military training only and the last 12 months to include knowledge and technical skills necessary for a professional career.
However, training must continue after service for all reservists. A contact and connection between reservists and the armed forces must be maintained even after their service. I proposed to the Prime Minister two-hour training sessions once a week for 2-3 consecutive weeks at their place of residence, e.g. from 6 to 8 pm.
(I was a reserve officer and instructor in 1974 and I know very well what I am talking about. As for my reports of proposals I made to the Prime Minister, I have made 65 proposals on various issues.)
Because the modern way of life makes citizens physically weak, education should actually start from childhood, making physical exercise a basic subject after first explaining its importance for health, well-being and for their survival in the difficult conditions we live in. Because wars have moved from the battlefields to the cities. In addition, citizens are very likely to be faced with extreme weather events due to climate change and should be physically strong to survive. Therefore, military service and military training should be considered essential for the survival of citizens in the difficult conditions they are very likely to face in their lives.
- In the equipment of the armed forces.
- To the sufficient number of serving soldiers, sailors and airmen so that firstly there are all the necessary units covering the entire country geographically and they are not abolished due to a lack of conscripts and secondly their manning is 100%. A fact that is linked to the duration of the Service.
- In the domestic defense industry.
- To the good secret intelligence services. Given that the hybrid war is being waged between several states, especially Turkey, which has been waging a merciless hybrid war against our country for many years, we need very good and strong secret services to confront it and also to wage a hybrid war against it. Fortunately, the establishment of an academy for secret services has just been announced.
- In the existence of privatized recruitment channels according to the model
- of the American e.g. Blackwater,
- of the RussianWagner
- and TurkishSadatWhich will be controlled in some non-obvious way and will cooperate with the Greek state.
Do you know how Turkey used the SADATin Syria but also in Libya.
TECHNOLOGICAL CAPABILITY. That is, we have the ability and knowledge to use new technologies. We have so many scientists that if the government wants to use the right ones by evaluating them with meritocratic criteria, yes we can use them, butand create new technologies.
- SELF-SUFFICIENCY (new factor). Of course, it is good for our country to be self-sufficient in everything, if possible. I limit here and I mention the self-sufficiency only in two areas in the defense industry and energy. For if in waging a war you depend for supplies, maintenance and support of weapons systems from foreign suppliers and they stop giving you weapons and spare parts, you lose the war. While we could have developed our defense industry given that we have above with a sticker 000 PhD holders and we have an excess of scientific staff.
- ALLIANCES (new factor). The correct alliances as long as you participate truly and equally and you are not weight For your ally, they increase your power. Because you will have their support in international organizations, useful information for the protection of your country, supply of weapons systems, etc. Ohτwhat was proven I'm already confused. with the new alliances that have been made recently.
- COHESION (new coefficient). Do you know the answer to Dimaratou in Xerxes as well as the disastrous consequences when there is no cohesion but division as in Asia Minor campaign. Unfortunately, the cohesion of the nation is not what it should be. The parties have divided society. The Aristotle he had said that parties create a civil war within the country the civil war of political parties. If add and population change to illegal immigrants the situation is done yet worseThe concept of nation is already defined by Herodotus as the whole of a human group characterized by This makes it a perfect choice for people with diabetes and for those who want to lose weight or follow a balanced diet. Omaimon, This makes it a perfect choice for people with diabetes and for those who want to lose weight or follow a balanced diet. fellow believer, This makes it a perfect choice for people with diabetes and for those who want to lose weight or follow a balanced diet. homoglossicand its homotropon. That is, when a human group has common origins and ties of kinship (the Omaimon), common gods (the fellow believer), the same language (the homoglossic) and the same customs and traditions (the homotropon), constitutes a nation, that is, it is an entity with the same ways of communication and therefore has coherence.
Here I would like to draw your attention to the religion that is being abandoned in Europe, for example in Germany churches are being closed and properties are being given for other uses while mosques are being built. And Turkey, which is our great rival, was built on religion as a state. Today Turkey has a population of 82 million, but it consists of 47 to 52 distinct ethnicities and races according to a generally accepted valid study of PeterAlfordAndrewsThis is also their big one. weakness. And in Turkey, 34 different languages are spoken! But their biggest problem is the Kurds who only in Turkey are from 14,3 to 20 million with a greater growth trend than the Turks. Nevertheless, the automatic translation machines that the Turks installed in their new airport have the ability to translate 36 languages but not the Kurdish language! However, there are Kurds in Syria, Iraq and Iran. All together they are about 35 million and they are fighting to obtain their own state.
- STRATEGIC MINDSET. Unfortunately is completely missing.
- STRATEGIC PLANNING.It is also completely missing. Regardless of whether they use the word constantly strategies and they have humiliated her.
- NATIONAL PLAN (new coefficient). National plan means a common plan for the country of all parties which they should commit to following when they become a government with minor deviations. Unfortunately, it is completely missing. So it becomes a rip-off, i.e. what one does, the other undoes, with the result that there is no result. The consequence of the lack of a national plan is that you are not considered a reliable and effective country both for investments and for alliances and collaborations because the next government can change them.
- PRONESE (new factor). Morality is the ideological equipment that they unfortunately forgot and undermined. Because without morale you cannot protect your country.
- POLITICAL WILL.
Sincerely Yours
