THE CONSIDERATIONS OF THE PUBLISHER Lieutenant General Elias KAZOUKAS
THE PUBLISHER'S CONCERNS
| Lieutenant General (retd) Elias KAZOUKAS "PROBLIMATISMOI" completed one year of publication, coinciding with the first year of the new millennium. The millennium of expectations for better living conditions and more peace in the world, since the end of the last millennium left behind ruins and wounds that cannot be healed. Unfortunately, despite expectations, the events of September 11 and the subsequent reactions brought new wounds, suspensions and postponements for what was previously considered certain. Everything is now governed by uncertainty and procrastination. This new situation certainly affects our homeland and especially our stagnant and chronic national issues. Issues that have remained unresolved and constantly postponed for years, with all that this entails. Certainly not the most beneficial solution for our homeland. The Cyprus problem has remained unresolved for approximately twenty-seven years since the last catalytic complication of 1974. This long stagnation, the result of a morbid procrastination, created the new situation, which simply seeks its legitimization from its creators. However, any solution will fall far short of what Greeks have wanted for fifty years. The Macedonian issue has been moving in the same direction for over a decade, since the unprofitable establishment of the expansionist, to our detriment, multi-ethnic state of the "Republic of Macedonia" for many and the "Former Yugoslav Republic of Germany" for us took shape. What naivety!! The solution to the problem is not foreseen in the immediate future. However, no one will agree with the wishes of the Greeks to delete a name that ex officio appropriates the territories, history and culture of a neighboring state. Greek-Turkish relations, despite the apparent recession, a result of "remotely controlled" politics, are in a worse state than at any other time, since Turkey is questioning our sovereign rights by openly demanding, while outside the European Union, the exclusion of the Aegean from the security responsibility of the nascent NATO-style and therefore unnecessary Euroarmy. The looming solution will not only not guarantee our borders, but on the contrary will confirm their abolition. Our European coverage is a source of hope. The issue of illegal immigrants, in its now organized form, literally plagues the country, damages the economy, burdens the quality of life, creates unemployment, disrupts the social fabric and, in combination with our acute demographic problem, will cause serious problems in our national composition in the near future. The Greeks are elated by our entry into the Eurozone on January 2002, XNUMX, when we will acquire “our own currency”, the famous Euro. Now, how much of it will be ours and how friendly it will be, will be seen in a moment. When we will be able to make simple and direct comparisons of prices of goods, services, salaries and pensions with those of our partner countries. Disappointment follows. In conclusion, from the above brief presentation of the course of our national issues, sloppiness, unpredictability, hesitation and procrastination are inferred. Common characteristics of hesitant and indecisive leaderships. Leaderships that lack the courage, boldness, high perception, radiance, prestige and acceptance to penetrate the facts and prepare or impose opinions and proposals of national interest. What is missing is a national strategy with visions, ideas and ideals, agreed upon and targeted. Leadership is needed that anticipates events and not be dragged by them and fatalistically accept their consequences. Leadership that realizes, expresses and puts into practice the visions of the people.
