They are sending 60 203 mm M110A2 A/Cs to Ukraine. The only ones for a decisive blow against Turkey from the islands
Each of their missiles was enough to destroy a Turkish ship or an airport in Turkey.
The Greek government is proceeding with the sale/exchange of 60 8-inch (203 mm) self-propelled (S/P) M110A2 howitzers and 150.000 rounds and ammunition from the Greek Army's reserves to the Czech Republic, with the aim of subsequently delivering them to Ukraine, withdrawing them from the islands of the eastern Aegean!
Each of their missiles was enough to destroy a Turkish ship or an airport in Turkey, and explanations should be given as to why the political and military leadership is taking such action.
The special standing committee on armament programs and contracts of the House is meeting this afternoon for this move.
This is an interstate agreement for a price of at least 199,4 million euros, which for the Greek side constitutes the basis for negotiation or exchange for materials and ammunition of equal value.
The A/C howitzers and their ammunition, which have been classified as Non-Operational Essential Operational Equipment (NOME), come from the reserves of the Greek Army and will be delivered "where and how they are" ("where is, as is").
The sale/exchange includes:
More than 60 M110A2 howitzers for a minimum amount of 31.219.000 euros (unit price around 520.300 euros).
More than 50.000 "high explosive" (HE: High Explosive) M106 projectiles with M2 charge for a minimum amount of 41,5 million euros (unit price around 830 euros).
More than 40.000 long-range M650 HERA (High Explosive Rocket-Assisted) missiles with M188A1 warheads for a minimum of 60 million euros (unit price around 1.500 euros).
More than 30.000 M404 ICM (Improved Conventional Munition) grenade launchers after M188A1 filling for a minimum amount of 33 million euros (unit price around 1.100 euros).
Each M404 missile disperses 104 M43A1 anti-personnel grenades.
More than 30.000 M509A1 DPICM (Dual Purpose Improved Conventional Munition) grenade launchers after M188A1 filling for a minimum amount of 33,6 million euros (unit price 1.120 euros). Each M509A1 missile disperses 180 dual-purpose grenades, against armored targets (with the hollow charge they are equipped with) and against personnel type M42.
It is assumed that the M110A2s are being retired because they are a 50+ year old design, which has high demands on personnel (13 servicemen/howitzer) and logistics (on average the weight of each projectile exceeds 90 kg).
If that's the case then why do we need the Army? They asked the islanders if they didn't want to serve 13 people on such a cannon to protect their island?
Is this why they didn't buy the Italian aircraft carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi at a bargain price, which was sold for only $450 million to Indonesia?
Why weren't there 250 men to man it?
Did they ask the Greeks?
Does their withdrawal not imply an immediate reduction in the ability to project power within Turkey, or are we mistaken?
How is the maximum range of 30 km achieved by the M110A2 replaced by the M650 HERA projectile or how is the destructiveness of the M106 / M650 projectiles (large fragment radius: 470 meters, effective projectile zone 80 x 30 meters, i.e. 2,4 acres) replaced by a range of up to 16.800 meters with a seventh M2 white bag charge and 30 km respectively?
How is the ability to attack area targets, which at the same time makes them capable of attacking enemy landing forces, replaced by the M404 ICM (104 M43A1 anti-personnel grenades) and M509A1 DPICM (180 dual-use grenades, against armored targets and against personnel, M42) grenades at a range of 16.800 meters (seventh M2 white bag load) and 23.431 meters with a ninth M188A1 load, respectively?
Will the usual messages about the weapon's age be heard again?
Then why do the Ukrainians want it for the war if it is a weapons system of reduced value?
How will it be useful there and not here?
The official excuses are not convincing and once again significant weapons are being withdrawn from the Aegean islands.
