On November 12th, the Cyprus Defence & Security Int'l conferences, #CYPSEC2024, ZOMIDEA Design and services ltd of Mr. Zomenos Vasiliou. The Hellenic Institute for Strategic Studies (ELISME), in the context of its long-standing and excellent cooperation with Mr. Zomenos, participated as a sponsor in the event and with his physical presence Mr. Nikolaos Kontopidis, member of the Board of Directors and Deputy Director of Studies, who also delivered the Institute's greeting with introductory remarks.

Purpose of the event was to bring together Greek and international defense equipment and security systems and technology companies with stakeholders from the Republic of Cyprus. The organization of this event has become an institution in Nicosia and succeeds in attracting companies active in the relevant interconnected security and defense areas. The event included an introductory geopolitical briefing for attendees on what is happening in the region by distinguished speakers. This was followed by presentations of the companies' products and services, which were accompanied by the organization of a demonstration at the event venues. The Cyprus Defence & Security Int'l Conference was attended by representatives of the political and military leadership of the Republic of Cyprus, representatives of the Embassies, executives of the armed forces and security forces and representatives of companies. The event was covered by all the media in Nicosia.

There has been particular interest this year due to the ongoing upgrade of the defense cooperation of the Republic of Cyprus with the USA, a fact that reflects the increased interest in the strategic capabilities of the former, but also the general recognition of the significant role of the wider Hellenism in the region and its stabilizing and consistent role.

GREETINGS FROM ELISM

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Institute for Strategic Studies (ELISME) based in Athens, we would like to thank you for your participation and presence at today's, 5^η Cyprus Defense and Security Conference 2024, in Nicosia.

We also thank the organizer of these exceptional events, Mr. Vasilios Zomenos, with whom our Institute has been collaborating constructively for the last 10 years.

ELISME is a non-profit organization founded in 1994 by a core of retired officers of the Greek Armed Forces, flanked by diplomats and people from the productive classes of Greece. The Institute's purpose is, by combining practical knowledge with theoretical training, to function as a think tank, on the one hand informing responsibly and on the other hand contributing creatively to public or targeted discussions and positions on geopolitical and geostrategic issues of our wider region.

Consequently, the long-term collaboration with Mr. Zomenos and our decision to be a permanent sponsor of the Cyprus Defense and Security events is part of our interests and areas of concern.

Even more so today, when the position of Cyprus proves to be extremely important for the interests of our states and the broader organizations that they have voluntarily formed in an effort to jointly defend our values ​​and defend peace and security in our region.

We all understand the vital position of Cyprus, as a supply base, a point of promotion of all kinds of aid, a pole of stability, a refuge for displaced persons and a provider of support to various multinational enterprises.

Therefore, you and your distinguished companies, with your reliable products and innovative ideas, are called upon to make this most important base of stability, the "unsinkable" aircraft carrier of the Eastern Mediterranean, even more stable and resilient to today's challenges.

We are confident that this event, as was the case with the previous ones, will be mutually beneficial. Let us all use this time and space for a fruitful promotion of our achievements, exchange of ideas, raising concerns and creating a climate of trust and cooperation. Through absolutely legitimate competition and rivalry, but also multifaceted collaborations, we are confident that the best possible results will emerge for all of us.
