PREAMBLE.
Man thinks, feels and acts responsibly. These three basic actions crystallize his beliefs and creeds, thus establishing humanity. The unique human quality, which constitutes his distinctive difference from other living beings.
With thought we try to perceive the reality in which we are obliged to live, survive and creatively act. It constitutes the most solid reference element of our being. With thought we seek our roots in the objective World. It is the energy of knowledge and the search for truth. Our basic “arsenal” is the mind, the Word.
Feeling, despite the fact that we place it in our heart, is again an energy of our brain. By feeling we mean the management of our internal energy. The space of all kinds of feelings, emotions, desires and instincts. It is the psychic "boiler" of energy production. By its nature, it easily becomes turbulent. It seeks order and rhythm. That is, beauty.
From the harmonious combination of emotions and reason arises the will to action. That is, the moral energy, which basically concerns other fellow human beings. It is the moral attitude to life. The value of the good, with the meaning of the good.
The three above-mentioned psychic pursuits, of truth, beauty, and goodness, are continuous and simultaneous. We separate them only for reasons of better understanding. The human soul, however, thinks, feels, and acts, as a whole, with crystallized beliefs and creeds.
IMPORT.
The inconceivable volume of knowledge and especially technological applications, alongside the infinite goods they offer us, cause a multiplicity and complexity that the human brain cannot easily keep track of.
The past century, scientifically speaking, has bequeathed to us that the whole truth, as an absolute magnitude, is inconceivable by the human mind [Gödel's theorem]. That is, today's complex issues, on a global scale, such as strategic, economic, social and above all political, as wholes and mutually conflicting and mutually complementary, are beyond our individual mental capabilities, even of the most "specialists".
The same happens with Beauty and Morality [good], as absolute concepts they have many readings.
However, when truth, beauty, and goodness remain objectively undefined, it is inevitable that our beliefs and beliefs based on them will be precarious, resulting in illusions and errors. Thus, our assessments and hopes are easily refuted.
Ultimately, the ever-increasing complexity, the speed of change, and the unpredictability overwhelm our mental world and cause bitterness, fear, and terror. We move in oceans of uncertainty with few seas of certainty.
NOISE, BARBAROSITY AND MISDEMEANOR.
The unimaginable speeds of information transmission, the commercialization of everything, the elevation from a means to an end and the "deification" of money, combined with a merciless exaggeration in everything and for everything, have caused an unbearable "noise" in social life, enormous barbarities and dangerous illusions.
Man is in danger of becoming a mere number, even a mere animal, a thing, a commodity. Essentially, he tends to become an endangered species, while societies and civilizations had man as their purpose and value.
The most pitiful tragedy is that while everything is done for the good of man, he became the first victim.
A barrage of news and information with a nice packaging and under the pretext of our own good contain part of the truth, while ulterior motives conceal the ultimate goal, which is to make man a helpless and helpless creature. A customer, a consumer or a frightened follower...
The abundance of irresponsible and sometimes malicious information from the media, the internet and the creeping rumor cause complete confusion and a sick culture, which influences to an uncontrollable extent the formation of our mentality and thinking. We have the illusion that we are informed, but this is not real knowledge. It is a jumble of opinions with some dose of truth mixed with terrible and often insidious lies. We all think that we have solid opinions and beliefs on all issues. Of course, in a mass society, almost all issues affect all of us. But it is impossible to have a clear and absolute position on complex and huge problems.
Evil, the ugly and the lie are more attractive because .. they "sell" more easily. Failures are infinitely more likely to happen than a success. The easiest thing is to say nothing is possible. Everything is crooked and upside down. Woe!
The most shameful of all, the most devastating self-deception, is that we are created with extremely flawed beliefs and beliefs, and we ourselves do not realize it. Beliefs, which are based on incomplete truth, on a beautiful lie and a dishonest attitude. Thus, we are created with an absolute conviction that we are acting with our own ... free choice, but in reality we are acting under dictation.
With this flawed belief in reality, we believe that we are acting correctly and probably justly. This is the most crucial point. Since ancient times, it has been believed that the mind [thought] reins in emotions and impulses and thus develops self-control. However, this presupposes that reason is based on truth and not on plausibility, which leads to self-deception. If reason is based on incomplete truth, then there is a huge risk of destroying everything that is beautiful and moral in man. He is led from the safe side to evil deeds.
We soon become disappointed and then everyone is to blame. By arbitrary deduction we conclude that everyone is a liar. Others are responsible. Trust is lost and the entire structure of our values collapses.
It has been forgotten that humanity is inextricably linked to freedom and its twin responsibility. The authentic moral responsibility for our own defense belongs to ourselves. Personal responsibility presupposes a sincere, honest and decent attitude, which begins with the diagnosis of our own abilities in relation to the complex and constantly changing environment.
CONCLUSIONS.
We have rightly abolished authorities, but we must admit that we ourselves are not authorities. No matter how "expert" we may be, it is not possible to be "expert" on all matters.
We must trust, again and seriously, our fellow human beings. The great deficit of our present-day Society is the essential lack of trust among us. This causes the main characteristic of our era, uncertainty, which when it overwhelms us becomes the great curse and the cause of many sufferings. However, it is transformed into oxygen for our renewal and progress, when it is within our means.
No one else, without our own participation, can eliminate uncertainty, without losing our freedom and humanity. It is our responsibility to find and develop our own strengths within the framework of our specifications in relation to the environment.
To firmly establish our own Self, of course in a harmonious balance of our inner "ego" [id] and the social Superego. To create our own identity. Not an eternal entity, but a personality adapted to the real conditions, which we can influence in our living space.
The above are matters of education, that is, of influence on our abilities. This influence is aimed at the virtues [integrations and adaptations with the World] that adorn the human personality. The starting point of virtues is the first glimpse of our mother. They are solidified within the family and the school. And they are gradually forged, as values, in the social furnace and gradually consolidated with our personal lifelong participatory process, which we call andragogy, as the phase of self-realization.
We have all seen a flower sprouting in a crack in a rock. Science teaches us that in a Universe with billions of Galaxies of billions of stars, on a "gravel" that spins like a top and moves to infinity, with an interior full of lava, a nest full of warmth [appropriate conditions] was created, where the greatest miracle, life, emerged. This miracle evolved into a more enormous miracle, the human brain, with hundreds of billions of neurons and synapses, from which the third greatest miracle emerges. Human consciousness. Thus, man not only receives information from the environment, but also transforms it into useful knowledge. And most importantly, he acquires the knowledge of knowledge and constantly improves himself. He acquires the ability to seek the beautiful and to discern the greater good.
Within the wonderful World of life and death. The uncertain and terrible one in which we are lucky enough to live, we dare to organize a eucharistic coexistence. As thinking and educated people, we have the potential and the duty to create a nest of real and beautiful kindness.
Of course, none of us can change the world alone. Perhaps together we can all create humane living conditions. It is not possible to permanently eradicate evil, ugliness and lies, because they are inextricably intertwined with good, beauty and truth. There are no bad or good people around us. Man has the most potential, but also weaknesses. He can be homo sapiens [rational], but also homo demens [irrational]. It depends on the type of values he chooses. Every person has positive and negative aspects. Both good and bad. Only the proportions vary.
The cultivation [pedagogy- andragogy] of our mental, spiritual world can develop our psychic fertility, so we will more easily distinguish truth, beauty and goodness. People are not robots with a program of competition and recognition, but are creatures of love and affection. Honesty and respect are more worthy than successes. Positive humanity exudes faith, hope and love, from which an immense optimism spontaneously emerges, which gives a positive sign to all our emotions.
And because our personal powers are always limited, we can, with honesty, decency and integrity, lean on our neighbor. To discern their positive aspects and reduce the negative ones. However, empathy is a prerequisite. To put ourselves in their shoes and not simply read them with our own code, which can also be precarious.
Let's wonder why they think like that!
EPILOGUE.
Millions of human souls have been trapped in a... "informational" and "advertising" commercialized storm and we cannot find alternative paths to pleasure and happiness.
And yet they exist, if we find our optimism, which exudes true self-esteem and self-confidence.
We would suggest starting with the simplest things. To choose from the chaos of apparent reality, what is truest, what is most beautiful, and what is best, and to compose them harmoniously with their opposites, which we must downplay.
Perhaps this path is more palatable amidst the difficulties caused by today's mass society.
Let us not spontaneously swallow every evil, every lie and abomination.
Let us proceed to the examples of nature and life, which are basically compositions of opposites with the principle of the golden ratio [proportion] and the perfect measure. All human virtues are, precisely, compositions of opposites!
This way we face difficulties more rationally and uncertainty is limited to acceptable limits.
Then we think more clearly, feel better, and act more honestly and creatively.
