From the moment the Prespa Agreement is ratified by Greece, it will officially become part of the international legal order, putting into effect the general rule governing international conventions that "what is agreed must be respected" (pacta sunt servanda).

However, the next government, as predicted by opinion polls, that will emerge from the 2019 parliamentary elections – whenever they are held – has emphatically stated publicly that, upon assuming the governance of the country, it is very likely to denounce the Agreement internationally, with the aim of annulling or modifying it.
