It was the first time the United States had been attacked by a foreign power on its continental soil. The deadly terrorist attack killed nearly 3.000 people, injured 6.000, caused untold devastation and conspiracy theories that continue to this day. Also, the number of those who suffer from chronic health problems as a result of this event is incalculable.

The first strike was at 8:45 a.m. on September 11, 2001, when an American Airlines plane, with 92 people on board, crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, near the 80th of the skyscraper's 110 floors, causing a devastating explosion.

The building is engulfed in flames and the panic that ensues is unprecedented. Hundreds of people are killed instantly, while many jump into the void to save themselves.

While the evacuation of the Tower was underway and while the images were circulating around the globe, a second Boeing 767 plane from the same company crashed 18 minutes later at 9:03 a.m. into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

The US is surrendering to the nightmare of terrorism and humanity is frozen, unable to understand what is happening.

At 9:43 a.m. American Airlines Flight 77, en route from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles, carrying 64 passengers, crashes into the Pentagon, part of which collapses. No one knows what will happen next, and as a precaution, the White House, the Capitol, the Justice Department, the Supreme Court, and all federal buildings in Washington, D.C., are evacuated, as are the United Nations and World Bank buildings.

The attack on the Pentagon kills 125 people, military personnel and passengers on the flight. But the tragedy at the World Trade Center is not over. Within minutes of each other, the twin towers collapse one after the other, and a huge cloud of dust covers the Manhattan sky.

The steel skyscraper, built to withstand winds exceeding 200 miles per hour and a very large fire, could not withstand the terrifying heat caused by the burning fuel of the plane. Meanwhile, a fourth United Airlines plane, which had taken off from the New Jersey airport, bound for Los Angeles, was seized by terrorists 40 minutes after takeoff. However, their plans were allegedly thwarted by the passengers, who rebelled, resulting in the plane crashing about 100 km east of Pittsburgh, in the state of Pennsylvania.

All 44 people on board the plane were killed, and the terrorists' goal was never known. It is believed they were aiming to fly the plane into either the White House, the Capitol, the presidential retreat at Camp David in Maryland, or one of the many nuclear facilities in the East.

From the very beginning, the US designated multi-millionaire Saudi Osama bin Laden, leader of the Al Qaeda terrorist network, as its number one most wanted fugitive.

About a month later, on October 8, the US attacked Afghanistan and in March 2003 it attacked Iraq, toppling Saddam Hussein. However, attacks on US allies followed, such as on March 11, 2004 on the Madrid railway network and on July 7, 2005 on the London Underground. 

The conspiracy theories

The terrorist attack against the US has been the subject of countless conspiracy theories that unfold in every detail on the Internet.

Among the most widespread, the one that wants the Twin Towers to be demolished with controlled explosions and the Israeli intelligence services to be notified of what was going to happen, as a result of which not a single Jew was killed. After all, the planes that crashed into the two skyscrapers carried huge quantities of explosives - not passengers - and were operated by remote control.

September 11 has been a great source of inspiration for conspiracy theorists everywhere. Theology professor David Griffin, for example, has written nine books arguing that the September 11 attacks were orchestrated by “the apparatus of the American state” to justify operations in the Middle East. This is a view particularly popular in the Arab world, as it absolves Islamists of responsibility and places it on Israel.

The author also claims that the calls made by panicked passengers on the planes are fake, since cell phones do not work at such altitudes.

Dean Hartwell, in his book "Planes Without Passengers. The 11/XNUMX Hoax Hijackings and Osama Bin Laden," claims that two of the planes never took off and that the other two landed safely.

So what happened to those on the planes? "They were pawns. They showed up, on orders, at the airport, to show the world that there were passengers. They were agents and today they live under a new identity. The government wanted to scare the world so that we would say yes to the war in Afghanistan and Iraq."
