SEMINAR CONTENT
Geopolitical Developments of National Interest. National Strategy
Current geopolitical developments and their emerging trends are examined in areas of national interest such as the EU, the Balkans, the Middle East, the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa. The role of the Great Powers and international organizations (e.g. UN, NATO and transatlantic relations) in these areas is also examined. From this examination, national security threats and challenges are identified, as well as any emerging strategic opportunities. Finally, the main axes of the National Strategy are proposed, as well as the basic idea of its implementation.
Energy Security at both European and National Levels and Offshore Platform Safety
The issue of energy security at European and national level is examined (needs, adequacy, energy dependence on Russia and prospects, alternative sources of hydrocarbon supply, alternative energy, Eastern Mediterranean deposits, etc.) and the corresponding challenges and opportunities of energy security are identified. The issue of the security of offshore platforms, maritime zones and the relevant legal framework is developed.
Turkey of today and tomorrow and Greek-Turkish Relations. National Military Strategy (emphasis on land and air power)
The main areas of national power of Turkey (present and future trends) are examined, as well as the axes of its National Strategy and foreign policy. A brief reference is made to the history of Greek-Turkish relations, as well as to current developments. The size of the Turkish threat is determined and an attempt is made to assess it in the near future. The main axes of the National Military Strategy are proposed with emphasis on its land and air dimensions.
Sea and Naval Power and Strategy for Greece
The issue of maritime power as a lever for national economic development is developed and a general approach to our national maritime strategy is attempted. The correlation of our naval power with that of Turkey (present and future trends) is examined and a National Maritime Strategy for the Eastern Mediterranean is proposed.
Handling of Transnational Defense and Security Crises. (Nature and strategies for dealing with CS, examples, conclusions - proposals)
The most important elements of the theory of handling transnational defense and security crises are developed (e.g. nature of crises, crisis prevention and management strategies, etc.). Examples of crisis management are analyzed (e.g. Cuba 1962, Falklands 1982, Imia 1996), the relevant conclusions are presented and measures for improving the National Crisis Management System are proposed.
