SEMINAR “ARMANNED CONFLICT – STRATEGY – LEADERSHIP”

The Hellenic Institute for Strategic Studies (EL.I.S.M.E.), within the framework of its educational activities, is organizing from October 11 to December 13, 2016 a Seminar on the topic:

"ARMANNED CONFLICT – STRATEGY – LEADERSHIP"

in which the following individual subjects will be examined in three thematic sections:

A. WAR – STRATEGY – LEADERSHIP

(1) Theory of War. War from antiquity to the present day. Basic definitions of Strategy (National Strategy, National Strategy for the Defense of the Hellenic Republic, National Strategy for the Defense of the Hellenic Republic, National Strategy for the Defense of the Hellenic Republic, National Strategy for the Defense of the Hellenic Republic, Land Strategy, Sea and Naval Strategy, Air Strategy, Doctrine, etc.).
(2)Classical and modern strategic concepts of war. Land, Naval and Air strategic thinking. Nuclear strategy.
    (3) Leadership in peace, crisis and war. Relations between political and military leadership.

B. EXAMINATION OF CHARACTERISTIC PERIODS AND CONFLICT

(1) Peloponnesian War. Second Punic War. Alexander the Great. Napoleonic Wars. Bismarck Period.
(2)World War I. World War II.
(3) Revolutionary War. Guerrilla War. Mao, China and Indochina. Cold War. Korea and Vietnam.
(4)Modern Wars: Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Syria.

C. FROM WAR TO ARMED CONFLICTS AND CRISIS. THE ROLE OF LAW. NEW FORMS OF WAR AND THE GREEK CASE

(1) Armed conflicts, crises and crisis management. Law of armed conflicts.
(2) Technology and modern warfare. New forms of warfare.
(3) Military threats against Greece. Deterrence strategy and Greek military forces.

The Seminar Speakers

Speakers at the seminar in question will be distinguished senior officers of the Hellenic Armed Forces, as well as reputable competent professors, members of the Hellenic Armed Forces Association.

Study Guide and Certificates of Attendance

Before the start of the Seminar, Students will be given a CD with the necessary educational material (Study Guide) and upon completion, they will be given a Certificate of Studies, as well as a relevant CD-ROM (PowerPoint presentations, bibliography and related texts).
 

Expenses

New Students, instead of tuition fees, pay ELISME €50 in order to become members of the Institute for one year (within this year, free sponsorship of our quarterly magazine "PROBLIMATISMOI" and an invitation to participate in our events are provided), as well as an additional €20 for all secretarial support as well as the provision of coffee and refreshments.
Students of the Spring Seminar 2016 can attend the Seminar for a payment of 40€, as a donation towards the purposes of EL.I.S.M.E..
For Permanent Members of the Institute, the amount is set at 30€, as a donation towards the purposes of EL.I.S.M.E..

The Seminar "Armed Conflicts - Strategy - Leadership" of EL.I.S.M.E. aspires to highlight the timeless value of important parameters, such as national interests, national goals, national and military strategy, power, leadership, the phenomenon of war, alliances, internal and external legitimacy, political and military leadership relations, etc., in International Relations and in particular in interstate conflicts. The Seminar is offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students, officials of the Armed Forces and the Armed Forces, students of the Hellenic Academy of Sciences, as well as to every active citizen.
