GREEK EQUIPMENT: What is expected by the end of the year, for 2024 corvettes-MEKO-Reaper-MLRS are going
In a briefing by the General Directorate of Armaments and Investments (GDAEE) for reasons of parliamentary control, the planning and prioritization of the ongoing armaments programs that are expected to be contracted were made public. However, the same update also lists their possible implementation time, so here the first ranking can be made, starting, however, "upside down". That is, with the programs estimated to be going into 2024 (more correctly, they are not expected to be completed by the end of this year). The most important among them are:
- The 4 corvettes with a budget 2,122 twice euros (concern here, as it is stated that a decision has not yet been made on how to implement the program).
- The modernization of rocket launchers MLRS worth 1,081 billion
- The upgrade of the 4 frigates MEKO on a budget 643 million euro.
- The market of MQ-9 Reaper, worth 387,8 million
- The supply of amphibious armored vehicles AAV worth 291 million. euro.
- Factory maintenance of engines F-16 Block 50, worth 151 million
- The purchase of 16 missiles Exocet MM40 Block 3, worth 33,3 million euros for the new missile boats "Karathanasis" and "Vlachakos".
- The maintenance of 3 switchgears C-130 in Israel, budget 58,4 million
- The contract for the ongoing support of the dispatch system of flying radar EriEye, height 83 million
- The subsequent support of the helicopters NH90, worth 50 million.
- Helicopter technical support Apache AH-64, worth 46 million.
On the positive side, the following contracts are expected to be completed by the end of 2023:
- The supply of kits Spice (guided bombs) for the Air Force, worth 130 million.
- The subsequent support of the missiles MICA of the Air Force worth 191,7 million.
- The supply of missiles Rampage for the PA worth 50 million euros.
- The subsequent support of Super Puma, worth 37,7 million if the legal entanglement is closed.
- The subsequent support of the helicopters OH-58D Kiowa of the Army Air Force, worth 34 million.
- The subsequent support of the missiles IRIS-T of PA, value 17 million
- The satellite services from France, worth 120 million.
From the above, it is clear that major armament programs, mainly of the Navy, are still delayed, or at least this is estimated by the competent services. The reasons are many, mainly complex procedures, negotiations and lack of funding. However, it is positive that the Air Force will probably take a good step towards strengthening itself with Spice and Rampage, as well as the support of MICA, while funds are being directed towards our entry into the French CSO satellite program and towards our helicopter fleet. We remind you that all of the above are estimates and we may see changes by the end of the year, hopefully positive ones.
