9/9/2016. THE CELL OF THE IMPRISONED PATRIARCH!!

Recently, at the end of August (27/8), the Israeli state television network Channel 1 broadcast an 83-minute documentary about the forgotten case of the former Patriarch of Jerusalem, Irenaeus, who was deposed from the Patriarchal throne in 2005 and has since remained confined to the Patriarchal complex within the Old City of Jerusalem, where the Agios Stefanos Fathers reside. The documentary, entitled The Patriarch's Room, is an Israeli-Canadian production, and participated in May 2016 at the Tel Aviv International Documentary Festival DOCAVIV 2016, where it was awarded for the research of producer Danae Elon and received an honorable mention from the European and Mediterranean Film Critics Association (FEDEORA). Producer and journalist Danae Elon entered his cell and met with the "dethroned" (for the first time in the history of the Greek Orthodox Church) Patriarch. With first-hand testimonies, she reveals what happened to the deposed Patriarch and manages to give a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the Church and the politics of the interests that affect it in the heart of Jerusalem. The film is directed and written by Danae Elon herself.
